Who writes The Shape House
The Shape House is written and edited in-house by the editorial team at Future Business Media, which publishes a family of independent specialist titles. There is no outside agency and no sponsored contributor.
We would rather show you the method than a row of photographs. Anyone can put a name and a job title on a page. What tells you whether to trust a figure is where it came from and when it was checked.
The sources we use
In order of preference:
- Regulators and public bodies. Ofgem for the price cap unit rate, the Building Regulations and IET guidance for electrical work, national radiation protection bodies for infrared exposure.
- Peer-reviewed research. Named study, journal, sample size and follow-up period, so you can weigh it yourself.
- Live retailer listings. For prices and power ratings, linked and dated, never repeated from another article.
- Manufacturer specifications. For what a given unit actually draws.
We do not use another blog as a source for a number. That is how a stale figure travels around the internet for three years.
How a figure gets checked
- It is traced to a primary source, not to a page that quotes one.
- The source is linked inline, so you can see it without taking our word for it.
- Anything time-sensitive carries its period. A tariff says which quarter it covers. A price says the date it was checked.
- If we cannot confirm it today, it does not go on the page.
That last rule has teeth. This site was rebuilt in August 2026 from an archived copy, and several claims did not survive the process, including a widely repeated infrared penetration depth that is wrong by roughly a hundredfold, and detox and weight-loss claims the sauna researchers themselves reject.
Where we state uncertainty
Heat therapy research is mostly observational and mostly Finnish. When we cite the cohort studies we say so, and we say who the participants were. An association found in Finnish men aged 42 to 60 using traditional saunas is real evidence, and it is not the same as a proven effect in everyone using an infrared cabin.
We would rather tell you the limit of the evidence than round it up.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, out of date, or a source has moved, email hello@theshapehouse.com with the page and the detail. We fix errors rather than quietly delete pages.
Prices and tariffs go stale fastest. If you spot a figure whose stated period has passed, that is worth flagging even if the number was right when we wrote it.
Editorial independence
Nobody pays to appear on this site. No brand approves copy before it publishes. There are no affiliate links here as of August 2026, and if that changes they will be labelled. About The Shape House has the rest of the detail.
